Our Story

Foxdale Springs Farm is owned and operated by me, Ken Farrell.  I gave up on the craziness of the metropolitan D.C. area over twelve years ago and moved to a lovely, rural farm in New Midway, Maryland, which is located in northeastern Frederick County.

I grew up on my grandfather’s farm in the Finger Lakes region of central New York. I have always been interested in returning to farm life and raising animals. I have often visited Yorkshire, England and seeing all the sheep farms on the moors really appealed to me. They are a beautiful animal requiring the care of a good shepherd. Little did I know that shepherding required knowledge that I did not possess.

After much research on breeds, I focused in on Tunis sheep (known for their easy temperaments, terrific maternal instincts and lovely coloring) and bought our first four ewes over eight years ago.

Today, there are nearly 50 sheep on the farm and we thoroughly enjoying all aspects of shepherding, especially lambing which typically is March/April every year.  Contact us today to arrange a farm visit or to find out how to buy our meat and other products.
